Associate Professor of Art History Dr. Lisa Homann is part of a team that received a NEH grant to develop a traveling exhibition New Masks Now: Artists Innovating Masquerade in Contemporary West Africa that will highlight the voices and perspectives of four contemporary artists.

UNC Charlotte Team Awarded National Humanities Center Grant for the Inaugural U.S. “Being Human Festival”
Professor of Communication Studies Dr. Ashli Stokes and a team of from Charlotte and the University of Edinburgh will host “Living Histories, Living Plants: Film, Food and Fellowship on the Carolina Garden Trail,” with stories about how plants and crops reflect our histories, hands-on cooking with ingredients from the Carolinas, and a propagated seedling workshop.

Catawba Food Sovereignty Coordinator Speaks on Campus
Hayley Brezeale, Catawba Nation Food Sovereignty Coordinator, spoke to Dr. Jason Black’s Indigenous Decolonization course in which students will tell arts-anchored, multimodal digital narratives based on the stories of indigenous scholars and community leaders. Brezeale’s visit to campus was supported by a CHArt small grant.

Students and Faculty Participate in Renewed Neighborhood Amphitheater for Greir Heights
Associate Professor Architecture and Urban Design, Nadia Anderson, and her students in the Community Planning Workshop collaborated with the Grier Heights Community Improvement Organization to map neighborhood history and develop ideas for renovation of their amphitheater. The enhanced amphitheater, featuring a mural by local artist, Georgie Nakima, was unveiled in early February.
